Blue Horizon Bay Community Watch

One of the reasons people love living in Blue Horizon Bay is the sense of safety and community we enjoy here. In a country where security is a daily concern for many South Africans, our village remains relatively safe — and that is no coincidence.

Behind the scenes, dedicated volunteers work closely with residents, security services, emergency responders, and neighbouring communities to help protect and support our village.

We work in partnership with:

- BHB Security

- The South African Police Service

- ECMR ambulance services

- Other Community Watch groups in the surrounding areas

- Farming Groups in our area

Together, we have created a strong community safety network that includes:

an extensive camera network and local control room,

volunteer patrols,

area WhatsApp groups,

firefighting support equipment,

and volunteer first-aid assistance.

Working Together Makes Our Village Safer

One of the key partnerships within our village is the close cooperation between the Community Watch and BHB Security.

In emergency situations, security personnel can access the properties of BHB Security members when necessary. This can make a significant difference when responding quickly to incidents or tracking suspects moving through the area.

There have been incidents in the past where suspects entered properties belonging to non-members, limiting the ability of security teams to respond effectively. For this reason, we strongly encourage residents to become members of BHB Security and to take part in the wider safety network within our village.

Our Camera Network

BHB Security established the camera network throughout Blue Horizon Bay and continues to manage and operate the system. Financial contributions from the Community Watch have helped expand the network and improve coverage across the village.

If footage is required for a specific incident, the matter must first be reported to the police. Footage can only be released to the police (not the public) once an official case number has been issued.

WhatsApp Emergency Groups

Paid-up Community Watch members are added to local WhatsApp groups according to their area within Blue Horizon Bay. These groups are monitored by area coordinators as well as ECMR ambulance services.

Residents use these groups to:

- report suspicious activity,

- request medical assistance,

- receive emergency updates,

- and stay informed during events such as fires or other emergencies.

Firefighting Support

After the floods of June 2024, the local fire truck was removed by the municipality. Since Blue Horizon Bay is surrounded by natural vegetation, having access to emergency firefighting equipment remains extremely important.

Thanks to the initiative of one of our residents, together with community donations and support from the Community Watch, we now have a firefighting trailer with a water tank that can assist during emergencies until fire services arrive from Port Elizabeth.
